The Big Four, Hong Kong

Hong Kong Trail, Lantau Trail, Wilson Trail and Maclehose Trail are internationally popular long trails amongst runners because of its terrain and unique combination of city and nature views along the way.

Lesther Libarios works in Equities Sales in Hong Kong, an international finance center where financial services is an economic pillar. Despite this highly bustling industry, he finds time to be active with interests over years on capoeira, spinning, and most recently trail running. Lesther initially reached out to YDD with a goal of getting a stronger and aesthetically leaner body, but didn’t fully realize how the goal he set will aide him well on months to come after his first sign up.

Lesther set out to conquer The Big Four: Hong Kong Trail, Lantau Trail, Wilson Trail and Maclehose Trail. Along the months of December to January, Lesther was working on his strength to compliment building endurance and run the Maclehose Trail. Lesther wanted to conquer the challenging Maclehose in 3 days which stretches out 100km and goes through the highest mountain range and peak in Hong Kong. On early Feb 2021, Lesther had a nasty fall while trail running causing a stress fracture on one lower rib, and other minor injuries. But with the goal to run Maclehose still on the horizon, he had to take time to do some serious rest and recovery. After being cleared by medical experts to run, he pushes through to conquer Maclehose.

His physiotherapist quotes “your recovery went very well because you do strength training.” On mid Feb 2021, with body and mind well-recovered: he completed the Maclehose Trail in 3 days indeed, with a total time of 17hrs and 55mins. Lesther realizes and shares that endurance requires strength, and how proper nutrition and strength training had greatly helped as the foundation for his trail running sport. Not to mention, the demands of long trail run on his nutritional intake.

A YDD member since Aug 2020, Lesther is at his third cycle of nutrition and strength program, and is eventually gunning for the 250km Atama Crossing in Chile within 6 days. YDD continues to support this goal through continued strength development with Lesther, and the journeys’ ups and downs! Congratulations Lesther in conquering trails, and more to come!
